"D.A.R.E." DRUG ABUSE RESISTANCE EDUCATION
IN SAFE HANDSIf you have a “special needs” individual living in your home, e.g. someone suffering from Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Down Syndrome, etc., the police department offers a service of maintaining pedigree records, to include phone numbers and pictures of these individuals in the event he or she wanders from home and is unable to communicate effectively. These records will help us return the person safely home. Registration may be done at city hall, Monday-Friday, 8 am-4:30 pm.CHILD IDENTIFICATIONOfficers provide child fingerprinting, photographing and/or video taping. This service is designed to help parents, relatives, educators, and law enforcement personnel identify youth and to serve as a significant deterrent to child abduction. This service is available at the station, Monday through Friday during normal business hours. Off hour appointments are available. Please contact the department for an appointment.OPERATION IDENTEngravers and video camera equipment used to mark and record valuable property belonging to citizens will assist in the identification and recovery of stolen articles. This service is available at the station, Monday through Friday during normal business hours. Off hour appointments are available. Please contact the department for an appointment.HOME / BUSINESS SECURITY AUDITSOfficers review homes and businesses and offer safety and security suggestions. If you are interested in having a security audit please contact the department for an appointment.SPEAKERS BUREAUOfficers provide lectures on law enforcement topics; e.g., self defense, security issues, etc. to local groups or organizations upon request.VIAL OF LIFEA vial for medication and a medical information sheet is provided to residents with specialized medical needs to be placed in their refrigerator, to be used by emergency personnel. Vials and the medical information sheets are available at the station. Please contact for department for further information.NEIGHBORHOOD WATCHResidents are given specialized training in their neighborhoods by police officers on how to identify and reduce crime in their area. If you are interested in organizing a neighborhood watch please contact the department.VACATION CHECKSOfficers check the homes of residents who advise that they will be away from their home on vacation. If you are planning a trip and would like the officers to check your home please contact the department by phone.SCHOOL VISIT / SAFETY PROGRAMUniformed officers or detectives will make appearances at schools in the city to offer safety training on a wide variety of topics. CHILD SAFETY TIPSHandouts are available for parents geared toward reducing occurrences of child abduction, kidnapping or molestation. Handouts are available at the station.HUG-A-BEARHandmade teddy bears are carried in patrol cars, to give to children during stressful situations such as auto accidents, to help children feel more at ease.SELF PROTECTIONTrained officers offer self protection tips to small groups of the business or residential community upon request.ARE YOU OKAY? PROGRAMThis program offers residents who are either disabled senior citizens or who may face medical emergencies, a automated phone call from the Dispatch Center thereby checking on the well being of the participant on a daily basis. This can provide the resident with special concerns, a feeling of well being and additional peace of mind at no cost. Please contact the department for additional information.CRIME PREVENTION FAX NETBusiness or Neighborhood Watch groups can be provided pre-screened crime data, indigenous to their specific Neighborhood Watch through the use of a fax. This can be directed to the block captain or a specific business.CELLULAR ASSISTResidential and business communities are encouraged to use their cellular phones to report serious auto accidents and suspicious activity to the authorities. Call *55 (MSHP) when on the interstate in Missouri, or 311 in the metro area. Give the highway patrol or the local call taker your location and articulate your observations.The Manchester Police Department also seeks continued assistance from the postal carriers, newspaper delivery personnel, utility companies and waste haulers in providing extra eyes and ears in matters of public safety.
